In the event that anyone else experiences bricking action with the i760 after a faulty update, please consider the following: Failures and “download again” error messagaes are a clear indication of an interruption of the downloading process. Upon no response of the Samsung i760, Hold the Left Soft Key down (next to the CRL key) while resetting the device which will cause the device to by-pass any software integration. (Do not hold the CLR and RightSoft key, it will only lead to the Emergency Mode and usually the device will not boot past that point). After which the device will revert back to default factory settings. You will lose any and all programs and settings that were installed. Lucky for you that you have a backup of the ROM - right? Don’t worry, whether you use Resco backup, Sprite backup, etc., the backup file while restore all of the programs and settings in 6.1 without any hiccups. The trick is to re-try to update the ROM before running to the nearest Verizon store.

This worked for me except that to bypass I had to hold the CLR key while resetting instead of the left soft key while resetting. Not sure what the difference is. Maybe different hardware versions??? That being said, here is what I did.

    1. Hold CLR key and press the soft reset button.
    2. The phone will boot up in bypass mode.
    3. Rerun the Verizon 6.1 upgrade program.

With any luck it will complete successfully this time.
    Mine did! ;)

Got something to say?
