T-Mobile set for second Android handset

Android is getting a lot of press in the smartphone and netbook world, but there is still only one device on the market and readily available to users — the T-mobile G1. The G1 was the first Android handset and had its share of early issues with software that have been fixed for the most part.

The Wall Street Journal reports that T-Mobile is set to debut its second Android-powered device as early as next week according to its sources. The phone is slated to be called the myTouch 3G and will be made by HTC specifically for T-Mobile.

The WSJ reports the device will launch and go on sale this summer and will be the second major Android phone to hit the U.S. market. Google still maintains that it will have 18 handsets on the market by the end of 2009. If it plans to meet that goal, devices had better start coming quick since we are half way through 2009 already.
