Notebook hard disk drives are about to get thinner folks.
Seagate will be introducing the new Momentus Thin notebook hard disk drive at CES 2010 which reduces the thickness of notebook drives from 9.5mm to 7mm. Seagate hopes these new thinner drives will find their way into cramped mobile systems such as netbooks and thin-and-light notebooks that might typically opt for more expensive solid state drives.
From a technical standpoint, the Momentus Thin will be available in two storage capacities – a 160GB and 250GB – both of which feature an 8MB cache and spin at a rate of 5400RPM. Power consumption is light at 1.54 watts on average. No word on pricing or availability as of yet but expect these drives to definitely be less than comparable solid state drives.
