Nokia unveils official port of Qt to Maemo 5

Developers working with Nokia’s Maemo have some good news today from Nokia with the announcement that it has created an official Qt port for Maemo 5 that allows devs to use Qt to target the coming N900. The Qt port allows for applications to be easily ported to all Qt’s supported platforms.

The apps can be ported to Maemo, Symbian, and Windows Mobile. Nokia reports that the Qt port to Maemo 5 is designed specifically for the Maemo 5 environment that is powering the N900 and that the port is based on Qt’s coming 4.6 release set to hit in Q1 2010.

The port will include the community-driven Qt for Maemo project created as a result of community contributions and enhancements. The change for a community port to an official port was needed to ensure apps developed with Qt would be compatible with future versions of Qt.
